MFW
Spring/Summer 2014
Money has certainly been on Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s minds recently and the collection was literally all about the money – ancient gold coins featured along with imagery of roman ruins. Coins were blown up to the size of tea plates and joined together to make waist cinching belts, they were also chain-mailed into a mini dress. Others were suspended in hoop earrings or stuck to barrettes positioned into up-dos. Silk dresses had the crumbling ruins printed over them; these were midi length and buttoned all the way up the back, or else, mini and flared with wide sleeves. These shapes are something we have seen for the past few seasons from the brand. The backdrop saw a trio of blossom trees which came to like on garments with prints and Sicilian ceramic decoration popped up as boarders, garments also had silk petal appliqué. In addition there was red lingerie slip dress, and a capsule collection of fluffy alpaca mini skirts and bustiers – they didn’t quite fit into the story but there was plenty else to keep you shopping.
The show ended in GOLDEN dresses from lace to others encrusted in faceted crystals, or laser-cut leather.
